Sheltering Joy
“….peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. I Samuel 25: 6
In these days of sheltering and social distancing unexpected joy can come our way, if we let it. Jennifer and I have discovered rituals and routines that have brought comfort and companionship to our daily lives: early morning walks/runs, reading newspapers and enjoying coffee in the morning, followed by a late breakfast, preparing devotions and sermons, working in the yard, connecting with our family, corresponding with others, late afternoon walks, catching up with our reading, watching the news, and long conversations about everything.
As fellow Christians we look for the good that can come out of even such a crisis as this one. And we do our best to make the experience as meaningful as we possibly can. Although we feel the pain of separation from society in general, we can still find joy in the moments of rituals and routines in our homes.
Prayer: O God, help us to enjoy our homes even more and to have an even greater appreciation for the ones we love. Amen.
